Welcome to my Wambana Blog

ME

Johnny, Viney, Leon, Nick, Me, Todd and Wardli 2(mine)

My room with Todd and A packed clothes line

Hi Mum Dad and Rup and all others how are lucky enough to be related to my or have the honour of knowing me. The meaning of Wardli comes from the local aborigine word which means 'dwelling'. The houses is pretty cool but requires a lot of cleaning, it is a three bedroom house, with two bathrooms and a nice toasty maker.

Cycle Tour

Day 3 Edithburg wind farm

Day 3 near the finish

Day 2 lunch break Below- Day 3 near the finish

Day 2 at innes

Cycle tour- Day 1
On the first day of the cycle tour, we rode in the morning and than in the afternoon. The morning stared with a 20 kilometre ride from the Wambana to West Cowie and back. Just before with left the bitumen Ben had a huge crash. This was a result of ben stopping really quickly as everyone around in did, although he put on the front brake and flew over the handle bars. And then hussey ran over him, hussey was ok although a slight cut on the hand, but Ben did something to his wrist and arm and a week latter he got his cast on as he broke his arm. For most this was a long ride as know one had rode that far before but this was a nice ride as the weather was nice and sunny. The flies were so bad and they really annoyed me, sandow killed 30 in like 20 minutes . We passed an old school with a car in it and Moff found an old book on baterica, his favourite subject. It was hard because the road was sandy, and roads were bumpy.
We came back for lunch were I had a wrap tuna and some pea-nut paste. We posted a few letters, mine went to my parents and my brother. The afternoon was where we headed in a long route around to Warooka to post the first batch of letters. We rode on the main road out of pt Turton, some boys carried there bikes as they were late to the meeting place. We took a really fun dirt track called Tuckokoowie, this was fun as we got to charge in head and it was bumpy and sandy. This was another 20 kilometre ride on a road with more dirt than concrete. This was also hard because near the end there were two rather large hills. My bum was a bit soar and I had no mental pain. That night we had to cooked plain pasta on a trangia, that wasn’t that hard to cook and as a bonus Charlie cleaned. It was a really fun day and we all went to bed very tried and with soar bottoms.

Cycle tour-Day 2
On the second day we got up and drove too Innes National park, the instructors said that this would be a 52 kilometre ride with a break at the true bridge lighthouse. The ride started by going up a big hill, but going up a hill means we get to go all the way down. We got up to around 40 kilometres per hour with a head wind. I noticed that my bottom wasn’t as sore that dad. The views were really good, of the ocean and they kept my going. My mental strength was fine as I was at the back helping the slower ones. Lunch was a good lunch with me speeding through my letter. The lunch was the same as yesterday and was the same for the rest of the week. Before lunch we went a long hill, which really made lunch feel worth it. Going down hill was fun and I went really fast. We stopped at the bottom and Paul introduced the 2 8 challenge, we I put my hand up for. My bottom didn’t feel that sore during the day as I didn’t have time to think about it. The challenge was the 2 8 challenge and I overcame them by the encouragement of others. The 2 8 challenge is where you have to stay in 2 on the front gear and 8 on the back gear, it was really hard and a great achievement

Cycle tour- Day 3
For the last day there was relief for some and sadness for others. We started just out of Warooka, the ride was mend to be longer than all the other days and I was ready for it. I was leader for that day so for most of the I rode at the back and helped the others. Andrew was the other leader and he was in charge of the navigation, which he did well. I got on the bike with a bit of a wince. The lunch spot was suicide point and was enjoyable and again I sped out my letter again. I rallied up the troops early and we got going early. As we rode we rode past pepper point and then past a really cool, massive wind farm. And I was really impressed with the size and the height of the wind farm, I was pretty impressed. We rode on into the town of Edinburgh, we rode through to the tidal pool. Which was very refreshing and cold.
The bikes were all the same as this

Introduction to Statistics

We have been learning statisticts of a number of day, whether the time spent on it was 10-1 hour. Overall it was pretty hard as i am not great with numbers. Our teacher is Moff he has a lot of experience and is very into his work and he can often go on a rampage of words .Although doing statistics with something that is relevent change, as we have done our 3.4km times and our 5.5km times. We learned:
  • fastest time

  • slowest time

  • range
  • mode
  • median
  • mean
  • Q1
  • Q3
  • IQR

We analysed all this times using a box and whisker plot. This is a box plot with the first 25% range and then the second 25% and the third 25% and then the last 25%. As demonstrated in the graph next to this.

This can be used in everyday life as it can be used in weather, sport and money and is very important in life.

My overall performance in the class was pretty good by my standards as i am in the top 50% of the class. This is something in a very proud of as a have beaten a lot of people and I am trying hard. The performance in a Wardli level is really good as I am the shortest but if you add the seconds I run second. I am in the top 25% which is really good for me as if I wanted I could rub it in, when I get paid out.

Overall my performance for the class was pretty good landing myself in the forward part of the middle percent. And in doing that coming around 9th in the class, which i am pretty happy with and i will keep on working on the time and beat it. In my wardli i came second just and i am very happy with that and i know i can improve it and therefore beat more people in the class.

Fitness Program

Every morning we wake up at 6:30 to either go for a run a fitness game or a power training game. Dale usually runs with us. Think he is my new idol because he is smallish and tank and he seems to have a level head and smart.

30/4 -3.4km
This was a real wake up call is it out end my eyes up to just how fit i am and just how far away for my fitness goal i am. I ran with Viney and Seals in a time of 18:30 minutes this was good for encouragement and made me try just that bit harder.

1/5-5.5km
5.5km is a long way for me to run so i kind of broke it up into parts I run 20 metres or so and then run for 600 metres or so. This was a great way for my to brake it up. I ended up running it in 30:15 minutes and want to be able to run the whole way and run under 28 minutes as that would be a good time and that would please me.

2/5-fitness game
For the fitness game we played a modified game of soccer. I don't think this was as valuable as running. The game was soccer and if the other team scored a goal and you were on your side the goal would go to the other team and another goal for staying on your side and not running enough. This would work the same way for both teams.

3/5-5.5km
On the 5.5km run i was luckily enough to beat my time which i ran before by around 2 minutes. i got 28:40, which is still pretty slow but gives my great confidence as if i can improve my time by around to minutes imagine what how much time i could improve by the end. I also walked less and i beat Jake again(c'mon).

4/5-fitness game
I still after this session think that running is better and harder, and in total is probably worse for. It was an easy morning of fitness, we worked on our relax time and our teamwork. Overall we did well as a team.

5/5-power training
This mornings power training session was really hard. We ran on a dirt road which was really sandy for about 1.4kms, it in itself was hard and it was really cold. We got to the beach and were told to stretch. Dale made to lines about 10 metres apart. The first exercise was to run up and back and get gradually faster, by the end of this everyone was stuffed. Next was the same but doing push ups at the end, 5. The next was to run it at 100% and still do push ups at the end.

6/5-9.2km
The 9.2km run was a really hard run. We ran in a group for the first 5.4km. This was good as the encouragement was always there but it also made it harder as the boys who general run faster than me were doing well and were fast but i am usually further behind and it was a really effort to keep up in it selves. The beach for the 4km was hard as the sand was soft in places and not in others. I run by myself and in the end came equal 9th in the class which is really good for me and i am really proud of that effort. What made it better was that i didn't walk the whole way. My total time was 58:25.

7/5-fitness game
Today's fitness game was really fun as we played diminishing load, which worked like this. The heaviest people were carried first across 10 metres and then this worked down to the last two people, where one would give a pige back and then he would drop him off at the other side and the carrier would run back to the line and then back to the rest of the group, he quickest would win. After we played gangup dodgeball this was fun as the people how got it after the first person weren't allowed to run.

8/5-3.4km
I was really excited about the run this morning and was looking to gun it and i was trying to beat Jake which unfortunately i didn't end up doing. This morning i was aiming to smash my time which i did recording a 17:15 which i was really impressed about but i didn't beat Jake

9/5-5.5km
This morning i really didn't want to run and couldn't be bothered as it was cold and i had a bit of a cold. But i ended up running really well and i was really happy with my time getting 27:30 which was really solid and i was really tired when i finished.

10/5-morning walk
This morning we went to do a 3km walk we talked with our excuse me gentlemen partner and asked them questions. We where meant to do a power training session but everyone was sore and tired from surfing yesterday, so dale went easy and let us soak up the nice morning and have a good chat.

11/5-3.4km
This run was a different interval run. You had to sprint at the every wooden pole, of which there are about 10 or so of them. This as dale explained was ideal for footy, hockey and soccer. As for footy you sprint when you can tackle someone or have and want the ball, so this is the perfect training. I ended up running a 17:30 which was ok considering the training.

12/5-modified soccer
This was a good morning as we didn't do a 5.5km run, i kind of wanted to do the run though as i wanted to improve my time, although dale going easy on us was a nice change. We ended up drawing at 6 all. The teams were 3&5 on to a strong 2&4. I though we were going to get smashed although a few mistakes from the other team helped us to a solid.

13/5- 5.5km
The 5.5km run was a challenge for me as i woke up with no enthusiasm, as i am getting really tired and i was toasty warm in my bed. Dale started off running but caught me no surprises there, we were in a group of around 6 or so and dale encouraged us to run with him to the jetty and even offered us a prize if we ran with him, which i did and i was very proud of myself. We turned around where i usually catch my breath and ran with dale all the way back. it was the hardest run i have done so far by far and i therefore beat my time, getting 26:56.

14/5- fitness game
this morning was all right with a quick game agility. This game involved for 4 corners running 10 metres as fast as you can and grabbing one cone at a time. This game was hard as it involved a lot of running Then we played a netball type game with 12 on a time and needing ten passes to get a point this was a hard and fun and with got smashed. After for 10 minutes we played normal soccer which was alright.

15/5-5.5km run
this was the morning where i really wanted to run as hard as a can and get the best time possible. This morning i felt really good out of the blocks, running with my singlet i bought from the OP shop for 75 cents. I felt like i was running at a really good constant pace. I run with Todd and Chris, we soon left behind chris and todd and i continued our charge. what was really good this morning was that i could always see the boys in front and i kept my going. I felt really good through the run and i felt fit and able. I finished in 27:30 which i wasn't very happy with but i felt good and strong. At the end i lack the leg lenght to get on a real spirint and kept up with the others that i have run the whole race with.

16/5-3.4km
Today run i was looking forward to running it really hard and hopefully getting under 17 minutes. But i stated to hard i think and couldn't keep on running. I felt really bad running this morning, it was weird doing from feeling fine yesterday to feeling so crap today. I ended up running it in 17:30, i wasn't very happy with that time but felt i could have done much better. Today jonny beat me and that is the first time he has beat me so that is a gage on how bad my day was. After everyone got back we started to play a fitness game, this game was really fun. This game was called chain chasey, it is where you have to get someone it, and then you hold and hands and make a chain, is continues until you have 6 people it and then you break into 3 and start again with those two groups of three. This continues until everyone is it.

17/5-3.4km modified run
This run was a good run as i felt really and everyone was around encouraging everyone. The run was all the same until you reached 20 meters in front of the shed where the final pole was. When you reached it you were running with a group and you ran to the next person and ran him to the final pole as well. This was the same for everyone and in the end got pretty tiring but as i felt good and it felt really worth while.

18/5-2.4km beach walk
The beach walk was just an easy warm up for the massive 11km tomorrow, then sun rise was very pretty and although the morning was a very cold morning. But the chat with friends was a welcome change.

19/5-11km run
Today was the day i was a bit nervous and anxious. I didn't want one mistake to stuff up my whole, like going to hard early or not going hard enough. I woke up naturally as my alarm didn't work. I woke at 6:30am and it suddenly hit me i would run the whole 11kms. I got to the shed where i stretched nervously and had a quiet chat. We got on the bus at 7:00am for the 15 minute drive to a very quiet and sleepy Hardwick Bay. We had little extra stretch down on the beach before we started at 7:20am. The wait was a nervous one, Dale had drawn a line in the sand. We lined up with 30 seconds to go.

And we were off, i followed Dale for about 30 metres while everyone else ran down to the sand, After a while i cut back down to the beach, this was really stupid as just as i did i hit the rocks, so i had to head back up the where i was before. The pack spread out i landed myself just above the middle. I ran with Todd and Chris. This was great as i could see all of us struggling, but willing themselves to keep running. We reached the 4km mark, i think i had a stitch, but it might have just been in my head. We were running strong i couldn't see the campsite because of the fog. I just keep on running, Chris run on past us at about the 6km mark. I wasn't fussed about this as i thought we would eventually track him down. We ran up to Simon who was a bit tired and but was looking really strong, and after a quick chat he sped on. Chris put a bigger gap in front of all of us. I kept on thinking about the stupid things, like beating Dale and coming first and i also worried about throwing up at the end. The run was long and i became tired, what helped was wanting to beat Todd, how ended up beating me by 20 second. Final 3km seemed to go really slow and take forever, as i could see where i wanted to go but it seemed i wasn't moving. I was now in front of Todd by 1 or so metres, this gave my motivation and i pushed on. The final 1.2km was so hard as the dirt track is really soft and is hard to keep a constant and fast rhythm. This was helped along by the supports how helped me run in. Todd had stretched out a good margain in front and i was unable to catch him. My end time was a solid 1:09:45, this was a good time although i was a bit disappointed. But i beat my original goal of getting under an 1:10:00, which was good. Overall i came 12 on the class.

20/5-3.4km run/walk
This was a very late warm downafter the 11km run. This was a chance to better your 3.4km time or just have a nice easy walk too round off a really good fitness program. I walked most of the 3.4km just so i could talk, but we had to stay in front of Paul.

Hardwicke Bay Revegetation Project

On the first monday we were here in the Wardli's wardli's 2&4 set to work on making a part of the neighbourhood look nice and pretty. These people how we were doing it with were very passonite in what they did and have a long working time with no breaks. We spread mulch for the majority of the time to the several garden beds and there the mulch would raked out by to of the ladies. A few of us including me, set to work putting in the new plants, to do this you had to take them out of their plastic container. This was alright and was mad better as they provided us lunch.

Q1
Some weeds are bad for the enviroment as the add instability to the enviroment and can cause other natural trees and plants to die. Therefore it can affect the native animals and have an everlasting affect. three weeds we learned about is lincoln weed, Box thorn and Kikuya.

Q2
Humans play a major part in the distrubution of weeds as sometimes people bring plant because of they look, smell and what they are capuable of, for example box thorn as it keeps the cattle in as it is thorny.

Q3
Some of the ways the weeds are spread are ballast water which boats use to keep themselves stable, the boats suck water in as well as the seeds. The animals can eat the plants overseas and when they get back they can poo it out.

Q4
Plants vary all over Austraila as some weeds can't grow in coastal regions and others can't grow in the inland as they need more water or something. Although the plants vary they all have the same damaging effect.

Q5
In the event of any significant climate change the effect would be felt both ways, as the tropical weeds might thrive if the climate changes toward tropical and it will have the same affect on the dry weed if the climate goes very dry.

Q6
People volunteer to weed and plant they are older than others and have seem alot and don't like the coming change. They also do this to make there local area like nicer, maybe to get tourist flowing through there town and therefore money.

Q7
Put on gardening gloves and use a bit of elbow grease.

Moff's history tour 1

The ship wreck the etheal

4/5
Today we did the history and a really, really liked it because it was really interesting, because we could see and touch what we were learning about. We started of by driving out of the drive way but before we could drive onto the road Moff stopped and talked about this tree. This tree is called Norfolk pine, this tree grows by the coast and it grows there because all then sailors planted it there as it is so straight and can be used for masts. It can grow for around 200-300 years and is native to Australia. After we drove down to the jetty and tried to find the mine knowone managed to do. After Moff telling us it was the caravan park we knew why. As it is dug out of the cliff and is below sea level.

After that we started to head for Marion bay and then on to Innes national park. On the way we stopped three times the first was so that could show us a particular tree this tree was called a Mallee tree, this is a very common Australian tree, which usually grows in groups, this tree is fertilized by ants and the trunk isn't visible above ground. The other tree was the Sheoak, this tree needs the Cocky bird to fertilize it, and unfortunately the birds and dying out and therefore so will the tree. The last before we could turn on Nova and get cracking was an old english house which one room was still standing and there was evidence of more buildings around it. This also was pretty interesting. Oh, forget one and this one was really interesting and had a lot of history behind it. We drove through into a private paddock and was told the to quiteish, the first things we saw were cracks in the grounds, these were formed becuase of the limestone caves below it. After Moff showed us an aborigine water hole, these holes were really old and had being filled in a little bit and were still quite deep, these were carved really well and were very smooth, and hard to find as they were covered in rocks to disguse them.

Finally we arrived there, the innes national park is really cool and takes your breath away in places especially when you are riding around. We headed straight for the Cape Spencer lighthouse. Where Moff told a story about aborinigal dreamtime story on how the rinho point was formed. The story goes that there was a massive guy who was wiping out all of the aboringines on the yorkes peninsula, when this guy came to the last tribe how he hated the most as he though he stole his wife. He wipe out all of the but the was the tribe magical elder still there how cast spells that all failed and the massive guy said bring out your magical animal. Which she did this animal was a big flying fox, this fox fought the warior back to a lake and he fell face down. And to this day the aborigines still belivie that they can see it on the point and see the warior in the lake.

After that we got in the bus and travelling up the Cape spence lighthouse to have lunch. We were walking on the track to the lighthouse when we stepped out from behind the shelter of bushes we, were hit with a 60knts or so winds. This was awesome as you could stand and a 60 degree angle from the ground. Another positive is that we ocean was so stirred up and the waves were big and hit the cliffs hard. Moff quickly dropped this idea as he didn't want any of us to fall off the cliff. So we retreated to the bus and had lunch in the bus.

From them on we drove the inneston lake and had a taste of the extremly saltly water. While we were there we all had a chance to grab some pretty jipsome rock on the side of the lake. We went on to the eathel wrech, this was a really fun experience with some boys getting there shoes wet and other thier pants as well. There is a ship wreck on the beach called eathel wreck there was another wreck of a tug boat further, which we couldn't see. The Eathel crashed on the beach but survied that. It was in good enough condition to sail again but the captian stuffed it out and they sank. After a long stop we went back up the stairs to the bus and drove down and finished a great day off better by bying chips and an ice-cream at the rhino tavern.

I think the tour was so good because Moff really knew what he was talking about and made it that much more interesting. Overall this tour was made good by MoffCape spencer JettyStenhouse jetty

Snorkelling

Going snorkelling was a fun experience and going with my friends from Wardli 4 just made it that much more fun. We went down to Edithburg and played around in the tidal pool. The skills other people learnt were mask clearing and getting all of the water out of your pipe. As i have all ready learnt these skills i just swam around and made sure they were perfect.

Inside the pool i saw a couple of fish, some seaweed and i few parts of Jelly fish. When we went outside the pool into the ocean i didn't see anything as the water was very rough and the bottom was all stirred up.

The best part about snorkelling was watching more nervous people get in the water and then get there head under for the first time. It was really funny.

My greatest challenge and perhaps my only challenge was getting in very cold water and then getting my head in after that.

Novel

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

by J.K Rowling

This book was first published in Great Britain in 2000, and this is the book that i have chosen to read while I am at extended stay. This book was published by Bloomsbury publishing. This book is the 5th book in a current series of 7. I have chosen this book because i have read most of the other books and i find them generally fairly solid.

Textual Conventions

This text is non-fiction, meaning it isn't real. This book is a continuous prose not lots of little stories. It is not dairy or letter format. This story is written in third person and is written in present text.

Literal Comprehension

The whole series and even this book are set around Harry Potter and his adventures around Hogwarts, a wizarding school. In this particular book, there is a triwizard tournament, where three schools come together one being Hogwarts. This event has been going on for hundreds of years and the cup chooses one champion from each school. You can put your name in by drooping your name in the triwizard cup. This year there is a strange twist where four people are chosen and there is uproar as one of the competitors is Harry, and he is too young, with the addition of the new rules. There are three challenges the first is getting the dragons golden egg, and in which the egg is a clue for the next challenge. This challenge is to get your friend of the bottom of the with a limit of an hour. Harry just manages to complete this in the given time. While down there he saves the competitors friend and keeps her in the contest. The last is more challenging, finding your way through a magical maze which can kill you if your not careful. Harry gets to the end first with Cederic the other hogwarts champion. Where they find lord voldemort and he kills Cederic. And that is the end apart from harry telling Dumbledore and Dumbledore telling everyone that the dark lord is back(lord voldemort) and no one believing either of them. The main characters are Harry Potter, Ron and his family, Hermione and Dumbledore. Also the schools Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. It is set at the school Hogwarts. The main issue is the Triwizard tournament and how to finish it. They main issues are solved by themselves and harry best friend Hermione.

Context

To be plain i am not really sure why the author chose the write this. One reason in mine option is that she really wanted kids to read more and or she was really interested in wizards and witches. One finally reason is that she just wanted to be rich although this reason isn't really likely. I do not think that the themes relate to the authors past experience.

Interpretation

After the ending of this book is would really like to know why they killed Cederic and let Harry Potter live with no injures at all. I don't not understand what happen at the start of the book it was confusing and boring. If i was to ask a particular character a question i would ask harry how he deals with all the bad stuff he gets and sometimes the bad media. I would ask the author, J.K Rowling how she thought up such an interesting and inventive story.

Synthesis

This story is not based as far as i know on anything from real life as, that would be pretty unlikely as i don't think that anything to do with wizards, or witches and as far as i know there is no such thing as magic. But the book could be invented from some random event that happened in her life.

Evaluation

The story i read was really interesting and i really enjoyed, even though everyone finished it when they were 10 or so. The end of the story was really good and always had to come, but Cederic was a real big bang. The only character i could relate is harry and Ron when there are not talking to each other, because it happens some times in real life. You can't really learn from this anything but to always keep trying and always be hopeful and happy. I didn't change my opinion of anything reading this story. The part the stood out to me was the part when harry was trying to get the golden egg from the dragon. Overall i did enjoy the story.

Creative

If i was to suggestion this book to be made into a movie i would suggest that the first scene should be removed as it is hard to understand and it is a bit confusing. It is about a family how are rich and snobbish how die without a reason and there is no trace of how they die. This scene has no relation for the rest of the book. The writer has done almost everything possible to make this book interesting for the young reader including:

  • action

  • adventure

  • brilliant description

  • well thought about characters

  • pulls you in

  • you can imagine what they look like and what the situation would be like

Session 1

I feel that my strength in a Wardli is that I am able to delicate jobs quickly and fairly and then do the jobs quickly and well. My positive is that i am always cleaning and i would say that i am fairly solid at the cleaning and I always try pretty hard. I have good persistence's which is good because i am able to to finish all my chores. I would be more cooking but we have good cooks at the moment so that is good, i do cooking in Adelaide so i can handle it. I would like to improve cleaning after yourself and that goes for everyone. And personally i would like to be able to be less in an up coming inspection.

The three main issues that have occurred in our wardli is just laziness. As there is a constant mess just plainly because of laziness. Like maybe just filling the water jug to put on the table and the water dripping on the ground as he carries it across to the table. And then seeing it then walking straight past it and not bothering to clean it up or worse walking straight throw the water and making a muddy foot print. Now I really know and angry those things make my parents and why they get angry. Another main issue is that when people just say why should I clean it up it wasn't me. This is a really annoying saying as i didn't make the mess either and i am already busy doing something else. This is the main thing I want to improve on as the 3 weeks of living in a Wardli goes by. As it will make living in a Wardli much easier and will make it more fun. And i will definitely start enjoying myself more. So if we can work on that more that would be great. The last issue is harassment between two members of my dorm, which sometimes dampens the spirit and the confidence of the victim. This is really hard to do anything about as the culprit is rather large and it is rather hard to stop them as they have just so much hate for each other and the victim can't do anything about it and i am really not sure how to deal with it and what to do, i am thinking of just telling a teacher but I don't want to be viewed as a tell tale. We are getting through these issues by bring them up in the meetings and just generally trying to get on well with everyone. I am sure these issues will be solved or overlooked for the good of the wardli.

Session 2

  • Intiative- this is very important as it will keep everyone in our wardli moving and doing well. Thus passing all our wardli inspections. This skill dosen't come from many of our wardli members, but the ones that do it are a real great help.
  • Communication- this is a skill that everyone one in the world has, but not everyone is able convey this skill across in a good way and uses this properly. The skill is in our wardli but isn't used properly enough.
  • Leading by example is a great skill to have, as it makes everyone else in our wardli take up the slack and pull there weight and sometimes more. This is really good when it happens and makes life a whole lot easier.
  • Knowing what is going on- This is a easy skill to have but on of the best to have and master. It keeps your wardli informed and keeps them thinking in head e.g making lunch for tomorrow so they can clean in the morning
  • Working as a team- working as a team requires all the skills shown above and many more. It is a great thing to have and helps everyone.

The most functional person in our wardli had all of the skills above and many more for example this very helpful person is able to take on the jobs that they have every day and you are also able to give them jobs and they will complete those jobs with a 100% effort and will do it so that it is perfect and that given job wouldn't lose any points in the inspection. This person is a person you want to spend time with and if you get angry they can calm you down and help deal with this. Overall this person is a great person to have in your wardli and we are very grateful for his effort.

To make our wardli successful for the rest of the trip, firstly we will devise a roster that will be really hopeful to the passing of all inspections and keeping a positive attitude on life and fun. I will work giving orders that don't sound so bossy and after that i should get a bit more respect and the out come would be good. Another soluation that will keep our wardli junctioning well is just chilling out more as that will help our wardli function better and everyone will be happier.

Poetry

Until
we search
we find
we live
for the one moment

that can make
one thing
anything

It moves, it defines
,life and
love

This was written by me on a very peaceful and smooth waved day. There were only one thing out there are chasing one thing, love. This could make there day break there day and even change there life forever. They search and sometimes they find, the wave and the day.
The Ocean
the ocean changes
from one man to another
one mans dream
calm and flat
is another mans boredom
for some
no waves
no surfing
one mans trash
is another mans treasure
One nice day; Turns
sand
hand in hand
waves
a sufers craves
seaweed
a kid peed
wind increases
crowd decreases
sharks invade
kids afraid
one bits
poor kid fights
parents scream
for what they have seen

Community service- leisure options

7/5
Today we went down to Yorketown and helped those less fortunate them us. It was in a shed called clem's shed at the back of Yorketown. We arrived at 10am and left at 2:30. I have more respect for what they do and unfortunately what we have to go through.

Q1: A volunteer is someone how gives there time and effort to help others less fortunate than them and all along doing this for no pay. They have to have his heart in it and really care. A really volunteer is Don from Aleppo pines and Phil the manager of leisure options.

Q2: What i learnt today is that even though people many walk and talk differently they still are the same caring person and like to have a chat, even though you have to try a bit harder to understand them and get along.

Q3: The experience that i liked the best was playing jack a card game with them and helping them through and then seeing there reactions when they win or worse when they lose. Another enjoyable experience was when we were leaving and Anthony was waving good by to us madly. Anthony is interatually retarded but he is really cool.

Q4: Today i least in joyed the awkward moments when we arrived, these there awkward as we didn't know and we all had these bad and sad impressions about them. Basically we though they were in a class below us.

14/5
today we had the leisure options at point turton. They arrived at around 10 we had a quick walked along the beach to collect cones and bottles for Roj how is obsessed with collecting them. There were less awkward moments than last time but still quite a few. We begin to roll the pizzas base out and and put the ingredients on the pizzas. Some of the ingredients were cheese, tomato paste, ham, capsicum, chicken, mushrooms and salami. to cook all the pizza took ages, but the final out come was pretty good and it was well worth the wait. We also had garlic bread which i quite like.

We played many card games and some games of uno, this was really fun but the only problem was that i didn't win any of my multiple games. We had some speech's from the leisure options and jonny also did a quick speech that was quite funny, but the stood up there so he deserves some congratulations

Overall of the people i got to know were, jess she worked with me sperating the plants, she had a bad memory and always asked the same questions, this was kind of funny at first and then you just felt a bit sorry for her. She was born with this and she forgets what she asks in under 30 seconds.Another was Roj how collects the bottles and cans, he lives at home with his parents and he is 60 and his parents are 80. These peoples parents would have to be very strong and never give up on them, they diserve the same sympathy and bonding as anyone else.

Scientific research- Hooded plover

Hooded Plover
‘Thinornis rubricollis’

The Synopsis
Hooded Plovers are a bird which used to live on the coast of most beaches from south Australia to western Australian. Some of the problems we had while researching were getting the birds confused with the red cap hooded plover. The steps we took to stop this was to have a good long look at the suspected bird and get everyone to have a good long look. Another problem we had we that we were looking ahead and could have easily trotted on the eggs, without realising it. We fixed this just by being extra carful.

Aim
Today with our research we are trying to find out the breeding success, habit dangers and their threats. The research is important as it will go to an excel database and scientists will use it in the future to help save the hooded plover. We are looking for a way to try and stop there also certain extinction. We are looking for a way to raise the breeding success, slow habit destruction and stop the predators having such an easy time of picking them off.

Method
We will be choosing a beach with a foredune as they will live around there. We will set five jobs. One is the scribe how will collect the notes on everything from threats, broken eggs and their population. The second job is the GPS operator this job will require them to mark all the spots where nests are spotted and the actual birds are found. 3rd is the threat observer, this task will require them good eyes and them reporting what they saw to the scribe. 4th is the camera operator how will take lots of photos of threats and the birds. Threats involve, dune boards, runners car and there tracks, dogs, trial bikes , foot prints, birds and beach cricket. The last is video recording where they will record movement and threats this data will all be collected and put in a prepared data excel sheet. Some of the problems we had while researching were getting the birds confused with a red cap hooded plover, these birds are smaller and they have black legs but at a distance they can be confused. The steps we took to stop this was have a good hard look and use all the eyes and have a double check.

Results
Today we saw two hooded plovers on a beach that was around 21.5ÂșC and had 15% cloud cover and the beach was pretty wavey and had a lot of seaweed. We started and 1:25 and finished at 2:15, there was no rain. But there were tyre tracks and other birds. Group 4 did this on the same day and saw three birds, although they did this in the morning. It was the same temperature with no cloud cover and they were on west beach with 4WD. The hypothesis I can draw from this is that the birds survive better on beaches with no 4WD tracks as the tracks can destroy their nest and can occasionally hit the birds. Group 5 went on west gate beach with again had no 4WD tracks and they saw 4 hooded plover. Again more the group 2 how went on Pondalowie bay with 4WD tracks. Hayden May saw a mother and her chick at Emu beach and the presents of a chick on a beach with no 4WD that is very isolate, was always going to happen as the chance of chicks growing on Pondalowie bay one of the busiest beaches on the Yorkes peninsula with cars is very, very little.

Discussion
What we have discovered today about the hooded plovers is that there are very few and for the hooded plovers to survive means that many things will have to be done in a short amount of time or there will be none left. From what we discovered today, the major causes for the hooded for the hooded plovers vulnerability is the car tracks, runners and joggers, dogs and sea birds. The situation of the hooded plover has become very serious indeed and needs some fixing. These causes (above) have been happening over a long period time but is getting worse as 80% of Australia’s population now live on Australia’s coastline. And there are now very few untouched coast lines around Australia.

Conclusion

All the problems that have been referred to need some serious thinking and consideration. Some of the solutions that need to be drawn fast are, driving on beaches where driving it is allowed, should be made not allowed. More signage is needed to help give people awareness that there are hooded plover eggs there, and to give more vision to the ground. Another alternative is having dog free beaches, as the dogs sniff around run ahead, they sometimes eat the birds themselves or their eggs. This is a drastic approach but is needed to be done if you are serous about saving the animal. A solution which we should all take on board is just general care, when walking on the beach, it is really not that hard. The government and charities for the birds need to take action and even some of the public would be a great help in there survival. If this is

followed up correctly everyone will notice more birds and no one will need to check. All of this is

very important if we want to save this bird

Community service- Aleppo pine removal

5/6
Today wardli's 2 and 5 went down on the main road to minlaton, and cut down very few Aleppo pines and pulled out what left like millions and millions of tree gruads, which include the plastic sheet and the three bamboo poles around the outside

Q1: The Aleppo pine is native to Mediterranean areas like Spain, southern France, Italy and northern Africa.

Q2: Aleppo pine removal is planted on the Yorkes peninsula because of foresty and is used for shade. Another use is to block the winds from houses.

Q3: The southern Yorkes peninsula land care group is keen to get rid of it as is damages road power lines and building structures. It also destroys other native plants as the needles drop on the ground and therefore the plants lower can't grow. Seeds can spread over a long distance very easily and when it gets older it is a real fire hazard.

Q4: For people like Don to volunteer it takes a lot of love and passion, i think they have this passion because they love their enviroment and want to keep it in pristine condition for the our many generations that will live in the area.

Q5: I feel good about my involement in the task undertaken today, I could have tried harder but i think i did more work than most even though i didn't work the whole time

History tour 2

16/5- History tour 2
I really enjoyed the first history tour so i was really excited to go on the second history tour. With tour involed going to a museum in warooka, visiting a grave yard and last saw some very old houses.

But first was the Museum, this place was really interesting, as it had lots of old artifacts and books. Moff lead us through the front door, which he opened with key, as this museum wasn't open that day. The museum was an old trooper's house, which involed into a house for a family of three. The museum was full of the old stuff, with some very cool old toys. I held on old gun, which you aren't allowed to hold in your shoulder, as it will break, or dislocate it. There was an old internet connection, which we hooked up to electric shock us all, this was funny and left you feeling really weird. Also a sword which was used in battle and it was really cool but rather heavy.Following Moff on again we went through the old house and into the tiny, tiny bedroom, this was seriously a metre wide and 2.5 long, which slept a few, in there we found the knife from the end of a gun, together these were called bayonets, this knife was used in war. Also in the bedrooms were gas masks, and tried these on, they felt really funny, and when you breathed you breath dust into your eyes. There lots of cooking item, from butter rollers to egg beaters. We walked into the backyard, where there were three really cool old tractors. There was also a lock up to keep the old crooks in. Moff shut the hole class in the jail and it really wasn't that dark but would get pretty depressing. In the back shed there were many machines for the various levels of the making of hay and making a hay bale. This museum was really cool and had some interesting things, including guns, swords and old pay machines.

Next we went to a grave yard, the grave yard was called Brentwood grave yard. This grave yard was in the middle of nowhere and had absolutely to buildings around it. The grave was mostly made up of young people how were all Christians but all had there epitaphs were all made up of pagan lines. For example one was " In sadness we watched her lingering breath till she lay like a lily so beautiful in death". There were 15 or 16 graves all facing east to west, but there was one on the side facing the other way. This is because they committed a sin like, having a baby with a man before they were married. The majority of the graves were young's one, ranging from 3 months but going all the way to 84. We also had lunch out the front of the graveyard, i had an apple and a sandwich with 1oos and 1000s.

The next place we attended after lunch was a really old farm barn house, this was a really large house with many buildings, this had stable for room to house 30 to 50 houses. When we first entered the drive way we stopped by a big well. We had a look down the well were Moff claimed that he had saw the biggest snake that he had ever see. We looked down and all we saw was a small snake, this was perfectly fine as the snake couldn't get up the smoothed stone well. We got back in the bus and drove along the drive way where we saw the a couple of interesting locals, these people live out side the law and therefore don't pay taxes. These people live on a different rules of there society for example not looking anyone in the eyes. The house was really old and and would have served as a large family house with large paddocks. There was one main room, a maids one room to the side, 4 or 5 sheds and mating room.

Overall the second history tour was really fun and i enjoyed it just the same as the first history. Moff has a lot of knowledge from the local area and the greater community

Wood oven cooking

Cranking up the fire
My Yummy pizza

Wood oven cooking was a fun day, as it was a very relaxed day and a really good catch up day. Our first job was to get the fire going, which we did. There is a way you can measure the fire which is to put your hand through the door and see if you can leave it there for five seconds if you can it is to can and if can't it is just right. Next we made the pizza bases these required five simple ingredients, wholegrain flour, plain flour, salt water and yeast. After that we had to let the dough raise for two hours.

Two hours later with pulled of bits of dough and rolled out the individual pizza bases. After that was gave them a quick cook to make them hard so the ingredients wouldn't fall off the sides. On mine i put tomato paste, lots of cheese, oil and Italian herbs. We cooked them for 8-12 minutes depending on size, it was really good.

While we were cooking them Dale put on a piece of bread, which cooked for an hour but we some butter it was well worth the wait. Last was the roast lamb which we put on for 3 hours and we put it on at 3. The veggies took 2 hours to cook so we put them on at 4. We had dinner at 6 and it was really, really good and well worth the wait. Our veggies were just cooked and the lamb we really good. It was really funny as the other group brunt their veggies to a crisp.

Surfing

Our surfing class

9/5/10
Day 1- Berry beach south
We arrived at berry beach north but have we had to moved to berry beach south as the beach was to big for those beginner surfer, there was also strong rips either side of where we would be surfing would make it very challenging for any surfer. Berry beach south was a beautiful site with clean large waves and lots of sun and little wind.
We all got up of the bus to be greeted by Shane, Oary and Sheryl, these three looked like they had seen a lot of sun and surf in a good way. They all had thongs, sunglasses and just generally looked like surfer dudes. I was very much looking forward to this day, as i have my own surf board and i sometimes go surfing with my uncle. We were given a wet suit which we put on and we all looked pretty funny, and it was funny watching people put there wet suits on. We where given a board which we carried down to the beach, i was hit with a salty, warm smell, it was really good. We went for a ten minute warm up, which we didn't really need as it was boiling in a wetsuit. This involved stretching your arms, legs and generally the whole body. I was really ready to get in the water at that point, instead of jumping into the water we had to learn the basics like paddling and of course standing up. This was done by doing a push up with your hips on the board. And then then jumping up getting your front foot forward. If your left foot was forward you were natural and if your right foot was forward you were goofy. I am natural, when we finally learned on the things we needed to we were off. The water was awesome, i charged out rather stupidly using a lot of energy, but it was fun. My and Tom were out the back with cam with all saw this wave and we all caught it and all successly stood up( HANG TEN DUDE!!!). Tom and Cam turned out to be really good surfers for rest of the two days. After my initial wave it paddled out to RANGA ( Charlie) and caught a wave with him, he surprised me as he actually stood up! He ended up being fairly solid. After a couple of solid waves i was handed a fibre glass board, 6,8 long it was good and a better challenge.
This continued through out the day with me catching the waves with my friends and having a good laugh when someone fell off or when someone got ran over. I was really good fun made much better with my mates around me.
At 3:30 we started the pack up process it took a long time and was painful watching everyone pack up when i just wanted to go back to camp and chill and get of the sun, as i was sun burnt.

10/5/10

Day 2- Berry beach south
As soon as i wake up to a howling wind i know the weather was going to be really bad and surfing was going to be made harder. We went to the class in the morning for a quick chat then on we went to the bus. We had a bit of a mix up with some people and there wet suits. Finally we were on the road talking and laughing. We arrived at the beach to find a absolutely crap and choppy day it was really bad. We partnered up as we had to share a board because of the bad weather. I went with Charlie and i went first. The weather was really bad and it was really hard to get out to where you wanted to be. Surfing this morning was hard as, we changed over every wave. Finally as the people were leaving the water as they were cold i could get my own board. Shane called me over and me and him caught the rip out along the rocks, this was really fun and very exciting. The first three waves i stuffed up and i was really annoyed with myself. After those three waves others caught on and i was catching the rip out with 5 or others. This was really fun as it was easy to get out the back and catch the big waves. I caught a couple of great waves and i caught the waves all the way in to the shore. Unfortunately the day only lasted half a day as the weather was so poor.

Overall the those to days were the bast two days i have had while being at extended stay and i am looking forward to the next two days very much and i can't wait. I am pumped.

Me above on a small smooth wave. Me below ripping it around the corner
17/5- day 3
For day 3 we surfed at berry bay north for the first time. The 2 instructors names were Owen and Prince. The board i grabbed was a red 7 foot board, which i had last time. This bay has stairs out at the top, below the stairs there are rips either side of them apart hundred meters apart. We started in front of the buses but couldn't help drifting towards the rips .The waves were really fun to catch and i caught some sweet right and left handers late in the day. For lunch i had fairy bread and i didn't get to sun burnt which i was really happy with. There were to groups the one i was in caught the righters away from the buses. The best part was when we were having a quick sesion to show everyone how to catch a rip out and we saw some dolphins jumping out of the waves and riding them. I quickly grabbed my board and paddled out. When i got out there i was right in the middle of the pack of 10 or so. There were 2 babies and the rest were adults. It was the weirdest feeling having dolphins swim under me and then it happened, one hit my board it was coolest thing and i will always remember it. Anyway the waves were alright and i caught some beauties and carved the waves hard. The afternoon was really good and i had a lot of fun. I was out of the water last and i was so tried and my neck really hurt.
18/5- day 4
Today was beautiful weather, there was no wind and it wasn't to hot although very bright. It was beautiful weather. Having friends there made it much better as it always does. The waves were massive and the general day was glassy and it was just wickered. Today the skills i had learnt over the last week really helped. The waves were huge they were around 5 foot said the instructor. The waves were really smooth and i really enjoy today. The waves weren't as good in the morning but still good, i enjoyed catching the smaller waves which were unbroken and i could really turn hard and surf the unbroken waves. In the afternoon the waves were the same but someone it was just better and i enjoy it more. The rip really picked up and we were finally able to catch the rip out the back and in doing so save a massive amount of energy and get out the back to the great big waves. And as well as the rip picking out you were able to catch a nice long right hander towards the rocks. This was got a bit annoying because if you started on the outside of a bad surfer how couldn't turn, then you would have to go straight as well. This was really fun because there was Nick P, the two instructors and paul how turned out to be a solid surfer. Catching the waves today were awesome and surfing in great weather makes it so much better. I stood up a lot today and overall i felt really good about my performance. Although i got smashed a couple of times because i tried to get out the back where the waves hadn't broken and got punished for it.
Overall the four days in the water were really fun and with my surf board i will surf a lot more and i will try and convinence my friends to by a board so i can surf with them. Surfing has been great and has been the best thing we have done

Qualities of Good Men

MY REFLECTION
The Extended stay program started on Monday the 26th of April and went to Thursday the 20th of May. This program is a 4 week program filled with exciting events and days. Overall the camp for me was really good and worth the money it took to get me there. My personal highs were finishing the long 11km in a very solid time at 1:09:45, which was under my goal time of 1:10:00. This run was really good as I ran with Todd the whole way and he kept encouraging me and I think I kept encouraging him. In the final stretch I had the helpful encouragement of those who had finished, which was really helpful. Another personal high was surfing and catching some great waves, which was really good as I got some great compliments from the instructors and other people. It was also really good as surfing with your mates is really, really good fun and when people were falling off it was so funny. The last personal achievement of which this was really good and I am very proud of is living with some friends that I am not necessarily the best friends with and surviving the whole camp and having enough to eat. The most valuable lesson I have learnt is really understanding the amount of work that my parents do for me and the amount of work that is required into running a house. There are some many things that they do for us from running us to footy and cricket practices, having more people over to cook for and the extra stress of having to work and still find time for themselves. Some of the challenging lows that I have seen and passed were, dealing with two days of home sickness, these soon pasted as the excitement of the camp and not having enough time to dwell on the thoughts. After those to days I really, really enjoyed the camp. This was caused by the multiple fun things to do from, surfing, history tourers and movies. Another low was not having any news or TV for the four weeks. I like the news because as Leon will tell you I like to know what is going on. This camp as changed me a lot, from me growing and I think possibly losing weight. This camp as basically forced me to change or just get bogged down and caught behind. As I had already I have changed personally because I now understand how much work my parents do for me and how much I don’t do for them. Now that I know this I will try and do more work for them around the house. The things they do for me include always cleaning my cloths, cooking dinner and organising me to get places, all of this I have now done and I will be able to put more time in and make my mum and dad life much easier. The experience was good and I enjoyed it.
